Frequently used for trauma reconstruction, orthognathic planning or even dental implants. CT scan data (DICOM) is used to plan surgery and design patient specific guides and jigs that exactly fit to the patient. They improve efficiency, reduce operating time and ensure precision. TMD l Pain, clicking, limitation in opening and locking of the jaw may be signs of Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction, or TMD. The Temperomandibular Joint is made up of the the condyle (the ball) and the glenoid fossa (the socket). Between these structures lies the articular disc. This disc is an important shock absorber and low friction device that facilitates movement of the condyle during opening. Mouth opening consists of two distinct movements. First, rotation and then translation. Translation is the sliding of the condyle anteriorly. Translation can be obstructed by a displaced disc. WISDOM TEETH l Impaction of a tooth describes when a tooth doesn't fully erupt through the gums into a functional position to bite (occlusion). Wisdom teeth have the highest incidence of impaction in the mouth. The tooth may be facing forward (mesio-angular), backwards (disto-angular) or be vertically impacted.
